During their 7th session of Foreign Office Consultations held in Stockholm, India and Sweden celebrated significant advancements in their bilateral relations, setting a strategic course for future collaboration on innovation, sustainability, and emerging technologies.
The discussions, chaired by Pavan Kapoor of India’s Ministry of External Affairs and Jan Knutsson from Sweden’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasized crucial sectors such as semiconductors, green steel, and green batteries.
Both nations delved into security concerns, covering cyber security and counter-terrorism, agreeing to explore joint defense sector collaborations. These discussions reflect a shared commitment to bolstering strategic ties and ensuring collective security.
The consultation also spotlighted the role of technology and innovation in fostering economic connections. Initiatives like the India Sweden Innovation Bridge and India Sweden Sustainability Day were recognized as pivotal to enhancing business relationships and economic growth.
Cultural and community links were acknowledged as foundational to the enduring relationship between the two countries, with the significant Indian diaspora in Sweden playing a crucial role. The session also addressed broader strategic cooperation with the European Union, advocating for the swift conclusion of a beneficial India-EU Free Trade Agreement.
India and Sweden agreed to continue their dialogue with the next round of consultations scheduled for New Delhi. The discussions extended to global diplomatic engagements, including United Nations Security Council reforms and other pivotal regional and global matters.
