Bangladesh and Algeria have agreed to enhance bilateral trade and investment cooperation, focusing on key sectors such as energy, pharmaceuticals, textiles, agriculture, and ICT. The commitment was made during the 2nd Foreign Office Consultation (FOC) held in Algiers today.
Senior officials from the foreign affairs ministries of both nations reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations, covering political, economic, trade, investment, and cultural cooperation. Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Md. Jashim Uddin and Algerian Foreign Affairs Ministry Secretary General Lounes Magramane led their respective delegations.

Both sides expressed satisfaction over the growing partnership, noting an increase in signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) from six to 22, along with a rise in business delegation exchanges. Discussions centered on expediting the signing of finalized MoUs between the respective Chambers of Commerce and diplomatic training academies.
Bangladesh’s Foreign Secretary emphasized the importance of operationalizing the Working Group on energy, established in both capitals, to explore collaborative opportunities in the sector.

Recognizing the significance of high-level engagements, both sides agreed to hold the next round of bilateral consultations in Dhaka at a mutually convenient time.
Following the FOC, Foreign Secretary Jashim Uddin met with Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf to reaffirm the long-standing ties between Bangladesh and Algeria. They discussed expanding cooperation in trade, investment, and energy. The Foreign Secretary also briefed Attaf on Bangladesh’s reform initiatives, to which the Algerian minister assured full support in strengthening bilateral relations.
