In 2022, China’s logistics industry saw a growth of 3.4% compared to the previous year, reaching a total of 347.6 trillion yuan (roughly $50 trillion). The industry’s total earnings for 2022 were 12.7 trillion yuan, showing a 4.7% increase from 2021, according to the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing.
The logistics industry in the East Asian nation has been significantly strengthened by the dynamic growth in the e-commerce logistics sector. A survey conducted jointly by the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing and JD.com indicated a 0.7-point rise from March to April in the index that monitors e-commerce logistics activities, reaching 109 points. This exceeds the highest point achieved in 2022, as reported by local media.
Eight out of nine major sub-indices, which track activities in different areas, reflected the strong performance of the e-commerce logistics sector. Both the business volume and rural business indices have reported growth for four straight months. The survey anticipates that the quick revival of e-commerce logistics activities will persist, with the index likely to hit 110 points or more in May.
This dramatic increase in China’s e-commerce logistics is largely attributed to the rebound in domestic demand, which has been further stimulated by holidays.
