Emirates SkyCargo, the cargo division of Emirates airline, has placed an order for five additional Boeing 777 freighters, which reflects its dedication to elevating capacity and meeting global demand. These new aircraft, valued at $1 billion, are scheduled for delivery between 2025 and 2026, bringing the airline’s total order to 315 wide-body aircraft.
The 2024-25 financial year’s first quarter was extremely successful for Emirates SkyCargo, surpassing pre-pandemic load factors and tonnages. The incoming freighters will elevate main deck cargo capacity by 30%, enabling the airline to cater key markets more effectively.
H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates airline and Group, stated, “Demand for our world-class product and services is growing exponentially, further amplified by Dubai’s Economic Agenda which aims to double foreign trade and reinforce the city’s position as a global trading hub. This investment in additional Boeing 777 capacity enables us to cater to customer demand and marks a step forward on our long-term strategic growth plan.”
Looking ahead, Emirates SkyCargo will evaluate future freighter fleet options to stay responsive to market shifts. This strategy highlights the critical role of airfreight in global trade.
Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, expressed gratitude for the continued partnership with Emirates SkyCargo. “It’s an honor that Emirates SkyCargo, known for its operational excellence and innovation, has again chosen the Boeing 777 Freighter. We value Emirates’ trust and are dedicated to supporting their strategic growth.”
As the new aircraft are delivered, Emirates SkyCargo plans to retire older freighters, conserving one of the youngest and most efficient fleets. The airline’s freighter fleet will expand to 17 aircraft by the end of 2025, enhanced by the conversion of 10 Boeing 777-300ERs into freighters.
Emirates SkyCargo will continue leveraging its passenger fleet to ensure swift and reliable global cargo movement. The fleet’s diverse mix—including 777s, 777-Fs, 747Fs, A350s, and A380s—provides flexibility to meet varied customer needs. This expansion aligns with Dubai’s economic goals, positioning Emirates SkyCargo at the forefront of global airfreight and reinforcing its role in international trade.
