The Trade Board Limited (TBL) urges exporters to secure origin certificates to leverage duty concessions, enhancing Jamaica’s trade competitiveness. These certificates are vital for Jamaican products exported under several preferential trade agreements, granting duty-free or reduced-duty access in foreign markets.
Rushelle Whyte, Public Relations Officer at TBL, highlighted the cost-saving benefits of obtaining a certificate of origin. “It essentially is your ticket to pay little or no duty to the country you are exporting to. Say you are… the company that is exporting your products, or you are getting ready to export but things can get costly, we are here to save you some money,” Whyte stated.
TBL showcased its services at the recent 10th Biennial Jamaica Diaspora Conference in Montego Bay, stressing the importance of origin certificates. Export Jamaica, a key platform under TBL, functions as a global market intelligence and compliance gateway. It provides access to marketing sites and potential trading partners worldwide, offering detailed buyer information to ensure secure and profitable international transactions.
“What you can expect from this cutting-edge innovative gateway is access to marketing sites, access to countries that you can potentially trade with, thousands of buyers… we are bringing the information to our customers,” Whyte added.
TBL’s primary role involves facilitating and regulating Jamaica’s international trade, thus supporting economic growth. TBL offers efficient services such as licensing, compliance oversight, and market intelligence, ensuring fair trade practices and boosting Jamaica’s global market competitiveness.
