Piyush Goyal, commenced a series of pivotal meetings in Brussels on Sunday, engaging in a dialogue with the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) ministerial delegation. This meeting, led by Swiss Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin, focused on advancing trade and mutual growth across key sectors.
Goyal shared on Twitter that both parties explored avenues for deeper cooperation, showcasing a united front for mutual growth and prosperity. This interaction lays the groundwork for a more integrated trade relationship between India and the EFTA member states, which could potentially reshape existing market dynamics.
The Indian Minister’s agenda in Brussels goes beyond this meeting. He is set to participate in the inaugural ministerial meeting of the India-European Union Trade and Technology Council (TTC) scheduled for Tuesday. Co-chaired by Goyal, the External Affairs Minister and Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, the TTC represents a strategic initiative announced last year by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
Ahead of the TTC meeting, Goyal is slated to meet Executive Vice President Dombrovskis and engage with business leaders from both the EU and India in Working Group-3 stakeholder consultations. These consultations spotlight Trade, Technology, and Resilient supply chains, promising meaningful dialogue towards future partnerships.
Goyal will also address a business event organized by the Federation of Enterprises in Belgium (FEB). His engagements will extend to meetings with Belgian Prime Minister, the President of the European Commission, and European Commissioner for Internal Trade Thierry Breton. These interactions affirm India’s commitment to enhancing its relationship with the European Union.
On Tuesday, Goyal will attend events for Working Groups I and II, focusing on digital governance, connectivity, clean and green energy technologies, with participation from prominent business leaders. He is also expected to discuss issues related to the small and medium enterprise (SME) sector, the startup ecosystem, and e-commerce with Commissioner Breton.
This packed schedule and the ensuing discussions underline the significance of these meetings in forging stronger trade and technology ties between India and the European Union, a development that could have wide-ranging implications for the global economy.
