Elevating its cashew industry, India’s Agricultural and Processed Food Products Development Authority (APEDA) marked National Cashew Day with a significant export initiative. This move cements India’s status as a formidable player in the global cashew market.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry announced the commencement of cashew nut shipments to strategic markets like Bangladesh, Qatar, Malaysia, and the USA, reinforcing India’s role as a prominent exporter. Holding the world’s second-largest share in cashew production and export, India is pivotal in fulfilling global demands for this versatile commodity.
Under the Union Ministry of Commerce’s guidance, APEDA spearheads new market alliances and tackles the cashew sector’s challenges. India ranks as the second-largest producer and exporter after Cote d’Ivoire, contributing significantly to the global market. Regions such as Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu are key contributors.
While maintaining strong ties with traditional markets like the UAE and the Netherlands, APEDA also seeks to tap into newer territories, including Japan, Saudi Arabia, the UK, Spain, Kuwait, and various European nations.
Celebrations of National Cashew Day across seven states included engagements with cashew associations, exporters, and stakeholders. These events, emphasizing industry trends and challenges, fostered critical discussions for sector advancement. APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev highlighted these dialogues as crucial for shaping growth and export strategies.
Dev commended Indian farmers for their commitment to quality and sustainable practices, significantly elevating industry standards and reinforcing India’s stature in the global market.
APEDA’s ongoing strategy focuses on modernizing processing facilities, enhancing logistics, assuring quality, and contending with international competition. These efforts are key to strengthening India’s position in the global cashew trade.
Looking ahead, APEDA plans to revolutionize the cashew sector with automation, professional training, traceability systems, and strategic partnerships for information sharing. Their goal is to employ innovative approaches and technology to distribute Indian cashew products worldwide.
