India and South Korea embark on a strategic expansion of their bilateral relations, targeting pivotal areas like next-gen technologies, semiconductors, green hydrogen, and professional mobility. This advancement emerged from the Seoul-based bilateral joint commission, with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and South Korean counterpart Cho Tae-yul at the helm.
Described by Jaishankar as both comprehensive and productive, the 10th joint commission meeting traversed an array of subjects from defense to trade and cultural exchanges. Highlighting the session’s significance, Jaishankar mentioned the exploration of trilateral cooperation and shared regional challenges and interests, particularly within the Indo-Pacific framework.
Jaishankar’s comments shed light on the dynamic partnership trajectory, expressing a keen interest in fostering relations through contemporary spheres such as critical technologies and supply chain resilience. “We have become truly important partners for each other and our bilateral exchanges – trade, investments, defence, and science and technology cooperation – have all seen a steady growth,” he noted.
The dialogue also offered an opportunity for in-depth discussions on Indo-Pacific visions and strategies, reinforcing commitments to regional peace and cooperation. During his visit, which also includes Japan, Jaishankar engaged with South Korea’s top officials, delving into the essence of India’s foreign policy and the expansive potential of Indo-Korean ties.
His speech at the Korea National Diplomatic Academy underscored collaborative prospects for ensuring Indo-Pacific peace and prosperity, focusing on building supply chain resilience and exploiting technological synergies for enhanced connectivity.
