The Brazilian Cotton Producers Association (ABRAPA) has committed to providing comprehensive technical assistance to Pakistan to boost its local cotton production.
The Brazilian delegation, comprising representatives from the Brazilian Cotton Producers Association, Brazilian Cotton Shippers Association, and Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency, visited the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) office in Lahore to explore collaboration and investment opportunities in the cotton sector.
The Pakistan-Brazil meeting yielded productive talks on sustainable cotton practices and industry challenges. Both nations agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation and explore new investment opportunities in the cotton sector. The Brazilian delegation recognized Pakistan’s growth potential in the textile industry and stressed the need for continuous talk to enhance trade opportunities between the two nations.

APTMA Chairman Kamran Arshad emphasized the need to strengthen bilateral trade for high-yield cotton seed technology and called for the entry of international companies with transgenic capabilities into Pakistan. He expressed optimism that the talks would boost Pakistan’s textile industry through sustainable farming practices, transparent supply chains, and improved global competitiveness.
Asad Shafi, Chairman of APTMA North, highlighted the importance of linking Pakistan’s textile sector with Brazilian cotton producers. Both sides explored strategic initiatives such as signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between APTMA and ABRAPA, setting up cotton warehousing facilities in Pakistan for regional markets, and boosting trade relations between Brazilian cotton suppliers and Pakistan’s textile sector.

They also discussed collaboration on cotton traceability systems, introducing improved genetically modified and certified seeds, and leveraging Brazilian expertise with Pakistan’s cotton research institutes, capacity-building programs, contamination-free cotton training, and potential joint ventures.
APTMA officials informed the Brazilian delegation that they have established the APTMA Cotton Foundation to address various cotton production challenges, including seed certification, traceability, and sustainability issues.
