Currently ranked second in fresh avocado, Amazonian chestnut, and ginger exports, and third in preserved palm hearts, Peru’s agricultural sector is on track for a prominent year. Projections for 2023 place Peru as the eighth largest fruit exporter globally, with sales expected to exceed US$5.681 billion.
Speaking at the 22nd Agro-export Luncheon organized by the Association of Exporters (ADEX), Elizabeth Galdo, head of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), emphasized Peru’s rapid growth. Blueberries, avocados, and grapes lead the country’s exports, establishing Peru as the third-largest fruit exporter in Latin America, following Mexico and Chile.
Agricultural exports increased by 13% in early 2023, spurred by a 7.3% rise in fruit exports. Blueberries and grapes, the top earners, brought in $1.705 million and $1.777 million, respectively, reaching 141 markets, notably in the United States and the European Union.
Minister Galdo highlighted efforts with the National Agrarian Health Service of Peru (Senasa), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Commercial Offices of Peru (OCEX) under PromPerú to expand global access.
The strategy includes technological innovations like the Single Window for Foreign Trade and trade negotiations to open new markets. Peru’s agricultural sector is advancing its international reach, delivering a diverse range of products to expanding markets worldwide.
