Saudi Arabia and Turkey have embarked on a strategic alliance, significantly enhancing their food production sectors. Announced on December 3rd, this move signals a major boost to agriculture, livestock, and water management capabilities for both countries.
At Riyadh’s ministry headquarters, Ibrahim Yumakli, Turkey’s Agriculture and Forestry Minister, and Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadhli, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, signed a pivotal memorandum. This Saudi Press Agency reported accord focuses on equipping agricultural sectors within both nations to withstand climate change challenges.
The collaboration involves introducing advanced technologies for agriculture and crop production, livestock sector development, and safeguarding plant and animal life. The agreement also targets advancements in biotechnology, organic agriculture, fisheries, and aquaculture, emphasizing a commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability.
The agreement’s core includes establishing robust quality policies and optimizing water resource use for agricultural ends. A key feature is the diligent monitoring of water pollution from land production, reflecting a commitment to environmental responsibility.
Aligning with the Saudi ministry’s goals to elevate investments in environment, water, and agriculture, the memorandum facilitates expertise exchange, commercial collaboration enhancement, and international relations strengthening, aligning with Saudi Vision 2030.
Concurrently, the Saudi-Turkish Business Council signed eight collaborative agreements between companies from both nations in diverse economic sectors. This event, part of a council meeting in Istanbul, saw participation from Saad bin Othman Al-Kasabi, governor of the Saudi Standards, Metrology, and Quality Organization, and Omer Bolat, Turkey’s Minister of Trade.
This meeting underscored trade and investment opportunities in both nations, focusing on sectors central to Vision 2030 and the Turkish economy’s priority areas. The trade volume between the Kingdom and Turkey, standing at $5.86 billion in 2022, marked a 32.6 percent increase.
The Turkish minister outlined goals to elevate trade volume to $10 billion shortly and $30 billion long-term. He also noted Turkish construction companies’ significant presence in the Kingdom, with 400 projects valued at $28 billion, and the existence of 1,400 Saudi companies in Turkey.
This Saudi-Turkish alliance signifies a major step in reinforcing economic ties and boosting food security, showcasing a commitment to sustainable development and international collaboration.
