Thales, has fortified its position in automotive cybersecurity by securing certification against the automotive standard ‘ISO/SAE 21434′. The certification, which followed a rigorous independent audit, attests to Thales’ exemplary level of cybersecurity expertise in the automotive industry.
With the adoption of this pivotal certification, Thales has positioned itself as a reliable cybersecurity provider for the automotive market, meeting the stringent requirements of 68 nations. As the automotive industry grapples with escalating cybersecurity threats such as hacking, data theft, and software modification, Thales’ expertise offers an effective solution for monitoring and mitigating such risks.
In response to rising demand for enhanced cybersecurity in the automotive sector, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) has introduced a new regulation, UN Regulation No. 155, focusing on the Cyber Security Management System for vehicles. The regulation mandates a comprehensive cybersecurity standard, ISO/SAE 21434, which applies to car manufacturers as well as all vehicle cybersecurity suppliers, including Thales.
Thales’ ISO certification reassures its clientele about the security of its solutions for vehicle manufacturers, integrators, and ultimately the users, starting right from vehicle development. The certification, which covers an array of processes essential for securing road vehicle cybersecurity, testifies to the comprehensive evaluation of Thales’ cybersecurity solution development process.
Thales’ adherence to a ‘security-by-design’ approach in its on-board solutions and services further bolsters its commitment to maintaining robust cybersecurity measures. This includes embedded secure elements, credentials management, firmware updates, and more, thus ensuring a future-proof, secure maintenance.
Moreover, the certification highlights Thales’ trustworthiness in managing data throughout a connected vehicle’s lifecycle. This proficiency is crucial as automakers must offer remote application and embedded device upgrades and patches to maintain a secure environment in the estimated +300 million connected cars expected by 20271.
Christine Caviglioli, VP Automotive at Thales, said, “The ISO certification has a highly positive impact on the market. In an era where cybersecurity has become critical, we are proud to continue supporting our customers with certified ‘ready to use’ solutions.”
