Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, representing the UAE in foreign trade, and Jordan’s Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh, held significant trade talks. The major goal is to expand and deepen the economic links between their nations. This crucial dialogue took place in Amman, showcasing a strategic focus on economic development.
Yousef Mahmoud Al Shamali, Jordan’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, was present during these discussions. The agenda focused on enhancing the collaboration between the respective business communities, aiming at economic advancement.
Prime Minister Khasawneh, acknowledging the deep-rooted relations with the UAE, expressed enthusiasm for the UAE hosting the 13th World Trade Organisation Ministerial Conference in Abu Dhabi in February 2024. The event is expected to draw officials from 164 nations, with Jordan participating actively.
Khasawneh also praised the UAE for its successful hosting of COP28 in 2023, a significant global environmental summit.
Dr. Al Zeyoudi emphasized the shared goal of UAE and Jordan to cultivate economies based on innovation and unrestricted trade. This vision is aimed at elevating the bilateral relationship to new levels of success and mutual benefit.
The strong bond between UAE’s President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Jordan’s King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein has been a key factor in reinforcing the alliance between these two nations, focusing on sustainable growth and the well-being of their citizens.
Dr. Al Zeyoudi highlighted the commitment to build upon the existing commercial and investment base, aiming to enhance relations and create new opportunities for the business sectors. In 2022, the non-oil trade between the UAE and Jordan increased significantly, reaching a value of $4.5 billion, a marked rise from previous years. This upward trend continued in the first half of 2023, demonstrating the strength of their economic ties.
Jordan has emerged as a principal Arab trade partner for the UAE within the Gulf Cooperation Council, trailing only Iraq and Egypt. The UAE, in turn, stands as a key global trading partner for Jordan, and a major Arab partner after Saudi Arabia.
The UAE is the top foreign investor in Jordan, with investments reaching about $4 billion by 2020. Jordan’s investments in the UAE in 2021 further cemented this economic bond, making Jordan one of the UAE’s significant investing countries.
This evolving economic partnership between the UAE and Jordan signifies a joint effort towards building a dynamic and collaborative economic future.
