Vietnam achieved a critical milestone in global trade integration with the departure of its first international freight train from Cao Xá Railway Station in Hải Dương Province. This event marks a significant upgrade in Vietnam’s logistical capabilities and positions the nation more strategically within the international trading landscape.
Previously serving domestic routes, Cao Xá Station now facilitates international cargo transport, linking with global trade networks. The inaugural journey saw a train laden with 12 containers of sulphur, aluminium, and milk products from Hải Dương, Hưng Yên provinces, and Hải Phòng City, destined for Yên Viên Station. This connection is essential for interfacing with further intermodal trains directed towards China.
The strategic elevation of Cao Xá Station to handle international freight follows a robust enhancement of its infrastructure. Positioned optimally near major industrial zones and proximate to Tiên Kiều Port, the station stands as a critical node in Vietnam’s export-import ecosystem.
Renovations at Cao Xá, completed swiftly within 83 days since January 2024, reflect Vietnam’s commitment to bolstering its rail infrastructure. The new rail links from Cao Xá to Yên Viên – Đồng Đăng and Yên Viên – Lào Cai catalyze direct access to markets in China and Europe via the Asia-Europe railway route, promising significant reductions in transit costs and times for local enterprises.
Triệu Thế Hùng, Chairman of the Hải Dương Province People’s Committee, highlighted the station’s enhanced role in the global logistics network. He has initiated collaborations with Vietnam Railways Corporation (VNR) to amplify the benefits of the railway system while promoting further development of associated road and waterway transport infrastructures.
Hoàng Gia Khánh, General Director of VNR, conveyed optimism regarding the expansion of cargo transportation services within the province. With plans to introduce the international railway route to enterprises and strategic partners, VNR aims to optimize international intermodal transport efficiencies.
The operational launch of international freight services at Cao Xá Station underscores Vietnam’s strategic intent to fortify its role as a vital component of regional and global supply chains, promising significant economic advantages by enhancing trade efficiencies and spurring growth throughout Hải Dương and beyond.
