Vietnam has maintained its position as the world’s largest exporter of cashew nuts for the 18th consecutive year, with export volumes in 2024 estimated at 730,000 tons, valued at $4.37 billion. Compared to the previous year, Vietnam has bolstered its dominance in cashew exports within the global cashew industry.
Vietnamese cashew nuts now reach over 90 countries and territories, with robust growth recorded in key markets such as the United States and China. Exports to the US surpassed 179,000 tons, generating $1.07 billion, a notable rise compared to the same period last year. Similarly, exports to China experienced significant growth in both volume and value.
The European Union has also emerged as a stable market for Vietnamese cashews, with consistent demand from countries including the Netherlands, Germany, and Spain.
Tran Huu Hau, Vice Secretary General of the Vietnam Cashew Association, highlighted that Vietnam contributes over 80% of global cashew nut exports. He attributed this success to advancements in the cashew processing industry, where modern technology has largely replaced manual labor, enabling Vietnam to maintain its competitive edge.
Vietnam’s cashew industry relies heavily on imported raw nuts, with Cambodia being its largest supplier. Vietnam sources 98% of Cambodia’s total raw cashew nut production, while African countries like Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana also play a major role in meeting the country’s raw material needs.
