Indonesian Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries granted three Vietnamese companies the green light for lobster farming within Indonesian waters. This move signifies a partnership poised to reshape the international seafood industry.
Five Vietnamese firms have joined forces with their Indonesian counterparts, aiming to cultivate and export clear lobster seeds—Director General of Capture Fisheries, Tb. Haeru Rahayu, confirmed the verification and certification of three companies by the Directorate General of Aquaculture.
This approval empowers the companies to cultivate lobsters domestically and internationally. The entities with permits include PT Mutagreen Aquaculture International, PT Ratuworld Aquaculture International, and PT Gajaya Aquaculture International.
Two other Vietnamese firms await the re-submission of verification documents. These firms, paired with their Indonesian partners, stand ready to enhance the region’s lobster cultivation capabilities once approved. The companies seeking approval are PT Idovin Aquaculture International and PT Idichi Aquaculture International.
The Vietnamese partners, Aquagreen Trading Company, Phu Gia Long Trading Joint Stock Company, Ichika Joint Stock Company, The Global Trading Company, and New World Seafood Trading Import Export Aquaculture Company, have established limited liability companies in Indonesia to streamline operations.
Haeru highlighted that lobster cultivation quotas adhere to the Decree of the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Number 28 of 2024. This regulation ensures quotas are based on the estimated potential of clear lobster seeds and permissible catch limits within each fisheries management area.
“In principle, the quota is determined by referring to the estimated clear lobster seed potential and the number of catches allowed in each fisheries management area,” stated Haeru. This strategy aims to maintain clear lobster seed resources, ensuring ecological balance and resource sustainability.
The collaboration between Indonesia and Vietnam underscores the increasing interdependence within the aquaculture industry. By merging resources and expertise, these partnerships elevate production capabilities and strengthen the global seafood supply chain. The approval of these companies positions Indonesia as a key player in the international lobster market while bolstering Vietnam’s burgeoning aquaculture sector.
