Geneva: The World Trade Organization (WTO) has officially opened online registration for the 2024 Public Forum, set to take place at its Geneva headquarters from September 10th to 13th.
This year’s theme, “Re-globalization: Better Trade for a Better World,” aims to address the challenge of making global trade more inclusive and ensuring the widespread distribution of its benefits. The forum will delve into the impact of digitalization, services, and sustainability in achieving these goals.
About the WTO Public Forum
The Public Forum is the WTO’s largest public event, bringing together government officials, business leaders, academics, and civil society to discuss global trade issues.
This premier outreach event attracts 2,000 representatives annually from various sectors including civil society, academia, business, and government. It functions as the WTO’s most significant platform for discussing global trade developments and suggesting improvements to the multilateral trade system.
Participants interested in contributing to the forum’s discussions by organizing working sessions are encouraged to refer to the detailed application process available online. The deadline for submitting proposals is June 14th, 2024, by 23:59 CET.
It’s important to note that all forum sessions are participant-organized, emphasizing the event’s collaborative nature. Meanwhile, individuals wishing to participate in the forum have until 23:59 CET on August 23, 2024, to complete the online registration form.
Celebrating WTO’s 30th Anniversary
This year marks the WTO’s 30th anniversary, making the theme of re-globalization particularly significant. The forum will explore green policies, services trade, and digitalization as key areas to foster inclusive trade and ensure that the benefits of global trade reach a broader audience.
Proposals for sessions must adhere to specific guidelines, including a limit of five speakers per session and the use of an official WTO language (English, French, or Spanish). The WTO prioritizes diverse and balanced panels, considering gender, geography, and perspective for the selection process.
The event underscores the WTO’s commitment to adapting and responding to the evolving landscape of global trade, aiming to create a more inclusive and equitable trading system for the future. For further details or inquiries, participants can contact the Public Forum Team at pf24@wto.org.
