As the festive season approaches, Yiwu, a major manufacturing hub in East China’s Zhejiang Province, has reported robust Christmas export growth, fueled by rising global demand for high-quality Christmas products. The city’s manufacturers are thriving because of innovation, competitive pricing, and expanding market reach.
Yiwu’s Christmas merchandise, including apparel, lights, and ornaments, continues to dominate global markets with its balance of cost and quality. Local producers have experienced a surge in orders, driven by the festive demand. Jiang Jiangping, a producer and exporter at the China Yiwu International Trade City, highlighted the city’s strong performance this year. Jiang’s factory, specialising in holiday gifts and apparel, saw a 10-15 percent year-on-year increase in sales, primarily in the US, Europe, and the Middle East, with annual revenue reaching 30 million yuan ($4.1 million).

Other businesses have shared similar success stories. Ouqi Craftsmanship, another Yiwu-based exporter, recorded its highest export order volume in five years. According to the company’s manager, surnamed Wang, while traditional markets such as Europe and the US saw modest growth, emerging markets in Central Asia and Eastern Europe showed remarkable gains. Orders from these regions now account for 30 percent of total volumes, up from 10 percent last year.
Yiwu’s success is attributed to continuous investment in innovation, enabling manufacturers to adapt to global trends. Advances such as 3D technology and new durable, washable, and colorfast dinner plates have gained popularity, particularly in Southeast Asia, according to Yiwugou (dot) com, an e-commerce platform operated by Zhejiang China Commodities City Group.
During the peak order period, Jiang reported a surge of foreign buyers visiting his store, often resulting in long queues to place orders. His company, which introduces approximately 300 new products annually, is already preparing designs for next year’s exports. “Innovation is the life of our products,” Jiang remarked, noting that new product development is crucial to staying ahead in the market.

Yiwu’s foreign trade has seen significant growth despite global economic uncertainties. In the first 11 months of this year, the city’s total trade value reached 613.99 billion yuan, marking a 17.6 percent year-on-year increase and setting a new record, according to Yiwu Customs. Exports rose by 17.4 percent to 542.06 billion yuan, while imports grew by 19.0 percent to 71.93 billion yuan.
As this year’s orders are shipped, many Yiwu businesses are already securing deals for next year’s holiday season. Meetings are underway to discuss new product designs, colour trends, and market strategies, ensuring that Yiwu remains at the forefront of the global Christmas product market.
